Teacher Courses
Equipping Teachers & Leaders Course and Teaching Orienteering Courses – Part 1 & Part 2
All these courses are aimed at teachers, youth sector workers and people working in schools and outdoor centres. Anyone aged 16 or over can attend these courses.
The Equipping Teachers & Leaders Course is a 4 hour course that is best delivered on 1 day. It is a practical course where progressive orienteering activities will be demonstrated and practiced. This course introduces the map, how it relates to the terrain and the skills required to navigate a simple course. Compass skills are not introduced on this course. The ‘Introducing Orienteering for Secondary Schools’ British Orienteering eLearning course is an expected pre-requisite for this course. The skills and techniques learned will equip teachers & leaders to introduce orienteering activities to groups.
Teaching Orienteering Part 1 is a full one day course. The training delivers the knowledge, understanding and practical ability to teach the basic skills of orienteering. This course is similar to the Equipping Teachers course but has additional time for the course leader to demonstrate more activities and for participants to practice and plan.
Teaching Orienteering Part 2 is a full one day course. The training delivers the knowledge, understanding and practical ability to teach some of the advanced skills of orienteering, including the use of a compass for navigation. People wishing to deliver the GCSE syllabuse for students should attend Teaching Orienteering Part 2.
