Organisation Vision and Development

NI Orienteering intends to be the leading adventure sport association, against which others are benchmarked. Dynamic, modern, and fit for purpose, it will enable effective and efficient delivery of the sport by clubs, schools and other providers, increasing participation and improving performance by bringing together a strong volunteer ethos, a rapidly improving infrastructure and a new professional coaching and development staff.

NI Orienteering works closely with British Orienteering who employ one Sporting Clubs Coordinator for NI. British Orienteering are about to launch a new strategic plan – ‘Thriving Clubs for a New Generation’. The 4 main themes are. These themes will be woven into our work and planning here in NI.

Sporting Development

 Working towards club membership growth and sporting officials’ growth as steered by the Club Environment Transition Programme 22-23.

  • Developing hubs in specific areas to increase participation and bridging the gap between these hubs and our 3 clubs.
  • Increase in junior only programmes and training to feed into Junior squad.
  • Webinar Series for sporting workforce and sporting officials’ development
  • Evolution of Equipping Teachers Course to upskill teachers to deliver quality Orienteering
  • Competition wise, NIOA Coordinates and develops annual competitions which clubs’ stage – 6 to 7 Colour Series Events, 5 Championships Events – NI Long Distance Champs, NI Middle Distance Champs, NI Sprint Champs, NI Score Champs, NI Night Champs. Currently developing an Urban League Series with 7 events.
  • Playing our part in staging major competitions such as Junior Inter Regional Championships 2022 and British Middle and Sprint Championships 2023 and Irish Orienteering Championships 2024.
