Shadowing at NI Orienteering Events

Shadowing at NI Orienteering Events

A Shadower is a mentor who accompanies the competitor on a course. For the development of orienteering shadowing should be encouraged at TD1 and TD2 level. Children, beginners and adults with learning difficulties can be shadowed for coaching or safety reasons.

It is often not practical for the shadower to complete their own course before shadowing. Therefore it is permitted for the shadower to compete at a higher TD level course after shadowing unless the controller determines that the shadower would gain a significant advantage, in which case this should be clearly published with the pre-event details.

Shadowing is not permitted at any Championship Events.

(Details of the competition structure is at Competitions including a useful explanation of Technical Difficulty (TD))
