Seskinore – Could you ask for more?

But all downhill – at Ecclesville!

Fermanagh Orienteers staged the 2019 NI Score and Night Champs, back on the same locations as last year’s Sprint and Middle Distance Champs.

The Score Champs at Seskinore Forest were fast and furious, with only the timed out road crossing allowing for a max 1 minute breather in each direction. Since the area was relatively small, 11 out of the 59 runners were able to bag all the controls, but with a better strategy quite a few others admitted that they also could have achieved a maximum score. The event was run on a mild winter’s day and most managed to finish just before a hail shower.

After the prizegiving, organised by Ann Savage for last year’s NI Long Distance Champs and Colour Series, when dusk fell it was out into the environs of the Ecclesfield Equestrian Centre at Fintona. Once into the darkness of the woods, the splitsbrowser graph shows a large number of “downhill” splits, indicating significant mistakes. What appeared to be simple legs on paper proved to be pretty challenging in the forest!

Thanks are due to the small FermO team, of controller and organiser Raymond and Teresa Finlay and particularly Ciara Largey the planner for both contrasting events. The results for both events are at Results>2019 Results.
