NI Junior Squad compete at JIRCs

A party of 8 Northern Ireland juniors with supporting coaches travelled to the NE of England for the Junior Inter-Regional Championships (JIRCs) on the weekend of 25-26 September. Both individual and relay events were held on South Gare, partly post-industrial slag heaps and sand dunes, sandwiched  between the rusting Redcar steelworks and an array of off-shore wind generators in the North Sea.

Unseasonably warm late September weather made for enjoyable spectating, but for warm running conditions. Seasoned squad members used the opportunity to compare themselves to the top juniors and generally recorded solid runs, whilst new squad members used the trip as a learning experience.

The results, including RouteGadget are on the Cleveland Orienteering Klubb’s website.

Juniors won’t have so far to travel next year as the 2022 JIRCs are to be hosted in Northern Ireland, when we hope to host around 200 juniors from across GB for a weekend of quality competition.
