Noel Bogle MBE, 1937-2022
It is with sadness that we learn of the death of Noel Bogle MBE. Noel was the main founding member of North West Orienteering Club club almost exactly 50 years ago and played a major part in establishing and developing the Northern Ireland Orienteering Association over many years. He was also heavily involved in forming the close links with the Irish Orienteering Association which continue today.
Noel was Chairman of NIOA from 1975 to 1977 and Chairman of NWOC from 1974 to 1980 and again from 2000 to 2016. Noel was appointed Honorary President of NWOC in 2016 and was the first recipient of the Colin Henderson Trophy for Services to NI Orienteering in 2021. A well deserved acknowledgment of his dedication to our Sport.
The funeral service will take place in Christ Church Londonderry on Friday 7th October at 1pm followed by burial in Ballyoan Cemetery.
Noel will be sadly missed by many officials and competitors in orienteering over the last fifty years, particularly the many young people he introduced and encouraged to participate in the sport.
