The Northern Ireland 3 Days
With 3 NI events in a week (and more club events and activities besides), it’s been a busy start to the summer.
First off was the second event in the 2024 NI Urban League at South Craigavon on 16 June, with Graeme Francis’ extended map and courses didn’t disappoint, apart from those who mispunched in what was a challenging event. Despite the forecast of rain, the showers held off until the end of the event.
Then just 5 days later over to Warrenpoint on another excellent new urban map, this time by George Savell with Moire O’Sullivan getting the opportunity to meddle with the heads of the competitors with cunning control descriptions and tricky route choices. This time the forecast showed for some dry conditions after rain, but unfortunately the showers persisted during the event.
The sun was shining on the slopes of Slieve Martin on Saturday 22 June, but that didn’t last long as after just a few controls on the sunny open, George’s challenging courses drew competitors deep into the dark forest, in most cases only to emerge quite some time later.
Thanks to all the controllers, organisers, volunteers and coordinators for all these events and the Tollymore Festival of Orienteering.
Please give your feedback for any event on the feedback form.
The results of all the events are at Fixtures & Results>2024 Results along with Routegadget.
The NI Urban League standings will be published shortly, but the NI Colour Series League standings are now published with Cahal Power the only competitor now showing a perfect score of 100 in Yellow. For the other colours it’s all to play for at the next NI Colour Series event at Moydamlaght, near Draperstown on Saturday 31 Augustand the next NI Urban League event at Portrush on Saturday 14 September. Do keep an eye on the Fixtures List for all the other club events and activities happening meanwhile.
