New Year Honours

Spotted in the New Years honours lists are some folk from organisations who facilitate orienteering:

Mrs Gwen Katherine Smyth BEM, Residential Life Manager, Accommodation, Queen’s University Belfast. For services to education. Gwen has been incredibly helpful in arranging access to Queen’s Elms Village for orienteering from the JK sprint on Good Friday 2011 with 1800 runners, to training sessions for a just few members of QUBOC when she has even arranged for tea and coffee to be served.

Forest Service, who of course own many of the areas where we love to go orienteering, are well represented:

Mr Malcolm Howard Beatty OBE, Lately Chief Executive, Forest Service, Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, Northern Ireland Executive. For services to the natural environment.

Mrs Anne Marie McComb BEM, Forest Guide, Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, Northern Ireland Executive. For services to forestry and to red squirrel conservation.
