What Happened- An Organiser's Report
The weather was kind on Wednesday and I hope that all competitors enjoyed their run. Barnetts Demesne is not the most technical area that the club has mapped and I tried to build a variety of legs into the Long Course. Legs 7, 8 and 9 in the trickier forest area were designed to force a change of pace following longer fast route choice legs. The split times show that not all runners successfully made the transition to a slower pace and more detailed map reading. I hope that others appreciated the spectator control as I was busy at the computer, entering competitor details and missed all the excitement.
The short course was roughly Orange standard, so well done to all those who completed it successfully, especially anyone for whom this was the first time to try orienteering. I hope that you all found it enjoyable.
The turnout was a total of 75 and I had printed 80 maps. That would have been a good estimate if I had gotten the ratio of Short and Long course maps right. Apologies to all those who had to wait for a Short course map and thank you to those who generously donated their map for recycling. If anyone would like a new copy of the Short course map, please contact me on 90874277 and I will post one out.
Finally, a big thank you to Jennie Currie and Richard Williamson who did a grand job on providing guidance to newcomers and on map sales. Thanks also to all those who helped to collect controls in the gathering gloom.
