What Happened
Torrential rain greeted the 40 or so competitors who travelled to Armagh on Wednesday evening for the second event in the Armagh WEE Series. However, spirits weren’t dampened (unlike everything else, including contact lenses!) and there was some hot competition, the results of which, taking into account the calculation of handicap times and resulting scores, make interesting reading. The current league positions after the first two events can be found by clicking on League – Part 1 under the General heading on the left-hand side of the WEE Series pages.
Congratulations to Kenny Weir for all his hard work over the past few weeks. For first-time planners, the event is a nerve-racking experience and, despite some confusion caused by two controls being sited too close together, his efforts were very much appreciated and everyone enjoyed the courses.
Clubs are always looking for new planners, and the WEE Series is a good way of providing novice planners with a chance to ‘cut their teeth’ before moving on to other events. Planning is not only interesting and enjoyable, but can also help with one’s own navigational skills. If anyone feels they would like to plan, or assist in planning, future events, please contact Stephen Gilmore.
Finally, a big ‘thank you’ not only to Kenny, but also to his sons Kyle, Adam and Glenn for all their hard work before, during and after the event. Thanks, also, to Louisa for her continuing administrative skills, and to Hannah for helping Kenny to 'man' the Start in monsoon conditions!
I would also like to acknowledge the help and support of Paul Derby and Noreen Porter from Armagh City Council in putting on the event.
Next week, the action moves to Gosford Forest Park near Markethill. See you there!
Please note from the results that control 146 was allowed as a substitute for control 144 on the Long course.
