Final Details

Please read a message from the planner for some final details.

Further information is provided below.

Location NIOC 2010 will take place in Tollymore Forest Park. The park is located a few miles outside Newcastle and can be accessed from the Bryansford Road.
Campsite

Enter Tollymore forest park from main Bryansford Road entrance. After 800m drive over a small bridge and turn left at the junction. Proceed downhill for 200m past the toilet block. Bear left and the field is on left. The camping field will be marked out to separate runners, campers and cars. Please camp to the left along forest edge, and park as directed by the marshals.

Parking The campsite car park should only be used by those who are either camping or staying for the BBQ. All other vehicles should proceed to the main car park and then walk back to the assembly field (approx 400m).
Car Park Charge

There will be no entry charge for those camping or staying for the BBQ. Normal entry fees (£4.20/car) will apply to those who are not staying for the BBQ or camping.

Toilets Toilets will be available 200m from the assembly field.
Showers Showers may be available to use after your run. Enquire at registration for further details.
Hired Cards Hired SI cards can be collected at registration. The dibbers will be in envelopes for collection.
BBQ Tickets Prepaid BBQ tickets can be collected at registration. The tickets will be in envelopes for collection. A limited number of full price BBQ tickets will be available for purchase on the day (£7/adult, £5/junior).

BBQ

The BBQ is due to start around 5.30pm. In order to be a little greener, we ask that you please bring your own plates, cutlery, glasses and beverage of choice.   Something to sit on would also add to your comfort.  There will be some paper plates available for those who have forgotten but we are attempting to reduce the rubbish as much as possible.  The BBQ will be on the campsite but you don’t have to be camping to join in.

Clothing Exchange There will be a single clothing exchange from start 2. Any items left at this start will be returned to the assembly field AFTER all runners have started. Clothing will be returned before the end of prize giving.
Safety Whistles are required for courses 1-3 (open hillside) and recommended for all other courses.  Cagoules may be required if the weather is poor.
Starts

There will be 3 starts in operation.
Start (1) for course 8-13 will be adjacent to the assembly area.
Start (2) for courses 4-7 will be 2.3 km and 90m climb, so allow for 45 min walking.
Start (3) for courses 1-3 will be through start (2) and instead of going on the zero line there will be a further 0.7km and 130m climb to start (3).

SportIdent A punching start will be used for all courses.

Helpers/
Split Start

If you are a helper or have requested a split start, you will have been allocated a suggested start time. However, if you are unable to make this time, simply turn up at the start line and the start official will start you in the next available slot for your course.
Colour Coded Courses No start times have been allocated to entrants on the colour coded courses. You simply make your way to the start line, and the start official will start you in the next available slot for your course. This will also apply to those who enter the colour coded courses on the day.
Course Info

1. Competitors starting from the further starts will have an option of running through the main car park in the latter part of the courses.  If you do, take care.

2. In the shorter course you may have a leg option that could take you close to the entrance gate and care should be taken at this point for traffic.

3. There is also a route choice near the end through the assembly field and competitors who choose this must stay to the eastern side adjacent to the fence.

Map Scale

All courses will use a 1:10,000 map.

Course Closure Courses close at 4.30pm. Controls will be lifted from 5.00pm
LVO Prize Giving The LVO club prize giving will take place shortly after the BBQ at 6pm.
Night Event

Registration and the start will be from the entrance to the campsite with registration from 9.45pm and the mass start at 10.00pm. The entry fee is £1 and the event is open to all aged 16 or over or to younger competitors accompanied by an adult. Through the combination of gaffling and a merry-go-round the courses roughly follow the same route but the legs may not necessarily be in the same order. The average length of the courses is 2.94k and the courses will be allocated to competitors at random. Whistles must be carried.

TempO Event Why not try the TempO Challenges?  There will be a TempO cluster set up on both Saturday and Sunday. You will be required to decide, against the clock, which flag matches the circle and control description on a series of maps of the terrain in front of you.  Each incorrect answer attracts a time penalty of 30secs.  Entry fee is a coin of the realm (or the euro/cent equivalent).  The higher the coin value the greater the time bonus you receive.  Thus 1p = 1sec up to £2 = 8secs.  On Saturday the event runs from 4pm (after the prizegiving) until 5pm (before the BBQ starts) and on Sunday from 1pm (after the coaching) until 2pm (before the junior fun starts).

Orienteering is an adventure sport.
All competitors take part at their own risk.
