Calling all junior juniors. (Aimed at the Under 15’s but all are welcome)
Lagan Valley Orienteering Club are organizing some fun days especially for you.
The club is running four Sunday afternoon fun sessions with an orienteering theme. These are suitable for complete beginners through to those already competing at orange level. (Don’t worry about the phrase “Orange Level” if you do not know what that means). There will be games and lots of fun things to do. These days are open to everyone whether they are a member of Lagan Valley Orienteering Club or not so bring your school pals, cousins, friends, parents, grandparents and anyone else who knows you. Dress for action – trainers, tracksuit bottoms, top to run in and a fleece and a windproof coat – just in case.
Remember you don’t need to have orienteered before.
Here are the all important dates for you. Make sure whoever is providing transport puts these in their diary.
Led by Stephen Knight.
This is the same day as the NI TrailO championship which some adults may want to try. Castleward is a National Trust property near Strangford town on the shores of Strangford Lough.
Led by Wilbert Hollinger.
Woodburn is a very nice forest area just above Carrickfergus.
Led by Ivan Millar.
This is the Sunday after a Saturday colour series event and there will be a string course available both days suitable for the very young ones. The LVO club barbeque will follow the event on the Saturday so why not stay overnight on the Saturday night and go to the fun day on the Sunday. Camping/ caravanning are available in this popular location just outside Newcastle.
Led by Ivan Millar.
Starts at 2pm.
Check the website and Watch this space for final details !!!
A list of club members with coaching qualifications is being prepared – you may be able to run but you cannot hide! Please pick at least one date and venue and lend your support. I am expecting at least three volunteers to help the leader for each of these days. It is time to share that hard earned experience with our future champions.
Please volunteer to help with these days organised for the younger juniors. Some of you may remember some of the fun sessions from your early orienteering and I would ask you to sign up to assist with at least one of the days. It will be fun for you as well.
These events should be a really good introduction to the sport of orienteering provided by experienced coaches and presented in a fun and enjoyable format. They are aimed at the younger age groups but all ages are welcome. Please spread the word and bring your friends. You may even want to join in yourself.
Orienteering is a healthy, outdoor activity which exercises the mind as well as the body. In extreme cases it has been known to become addictive. |
