| 1. | 4/27/2008 9:38:00 PM | I think this issue has been handled in a potential destructive - not constructive - manner. From what I understand, the initial request was to try and facilitate an additional event or more for the Juniors - not un-reasonable in my view.
Now we have a debate which seems to have hardened with all sorts of additional factors being introduced which were nowhere near the initial request. I can't imagine what the Juniors think about the way in which their seniors have shown by way of leadership, collaboration and tolerance for other views.
I don't judge this to be the issue it has been made out to be. The sooner we move on from it the better. It doesn't seem unreasonable to have a few events on a Sun - even up to a 50/50 split with Sat. Lets get to the bigger issues. |
| 2. | 4/28/2008 7:12:00 AM | Saturday only events are possibly preventing a stronger membership base, due to shift patterns, other sporting,or family commitments.
eg. Hairdressers only get Sunday and Mondays off.
Saturday is the Sabbath for some members of the community, I know it's not possible to cater for all. |
| 3. | 4/28/2008 8:24:00 AM | I feel that the current setup whereby championship events that have taken place over a number of years on Saturdays should remain that way in the meantime, however I also feel that a Sunday championship should be set up for a trial period to assess if Northern Ireland competitors want to compete on Sundays without being forced to do so. |
| 4. | 4/28/2008 12:48:00 PM | wording of the question is open to misinterpretation. Running events on a Sunday excludes a significant number of NIOA members. |
| 5. | 4/28/2008 4:35:00 PM | I don't really understand the last option - does this double the workload for organisers? I don't see the advantage in it. But it doesn't bother me whether an event is on a Saturday or Sunday - only that Sunday events would possibly then clash with events in the Republic. A good fixtures calendar would be necessary to avoid this. But I will, and do, run on either day if I'm free. |
| 6. | 4/28/2008 8:57:00 PM | Saturdays are my preffered days as i cycle on a sunday |
| 7. | 4/28/2008 10:21:00 PM | I have other family commitments on Sunday so my preference is definitely Saturday. I accept this is not true for everyone. I would not want to foist my view onto people who give their time and energy to organise events. It must be their decision I feel. |
| 8. | 4/29/2008 10:48:00 AM | Orienteering should run on the best days to attract orienteers, which may be Sat or Sun and is likely to be a judicious mix of both. With a Sat only status quo any move of NI Orienteering sponsored events to Sun should be careful and gradual, but we should not limit ourselves to Sat only. Clubs should be encouraged to try Sun to gauge the level of support. |
| 9. | 4/29/2008 11:18:00 AM | Personally I would prefer more Saturday than Sunday events, but I would be happy to compete on either. |
| 10. | 4/29/2008 1:26:00 PM | Possibly, but not to the detriment of the Saturday events |
| 11. | 4/29/2008 10:53:00 PM | Orienteering should be available to as many as possible.
events could be held on any day.
personaly I think if the colour series is shortened to 3 major events it would be better to keep these on Saturdays to keep the overall orienteering "family"
in N.Ireland happy - and then leave it upto individual clubs whether they would like to hold their club events on Saturdays or Sundays (or Wednesdays) |
| 12. | 5/3/2008 7:18:00 PM | There is little logis in offering events on both Saturdays and Sundays. Neither those who are only available on either day will be catered for and consequently only those are available both days will be facilitated. The ultimate consequence will be to reduce numbers participating. |
| 13. | 5/4/2008 10:44:00 AM | Don't really mind, but don't feel it needs changed either. |
| 14. | 5/4/2008 2:57:00 PM | I would like some events on a Sunday. |
| 15. | 5/4/2008 5:07:00 PM | I don't understand the last question. Is it suggested that events be duplicated so that a competitor can choose to run on whichever day he chooses? If this is not what is meant, and if events are held on both Saturday and Sunday, then why should a competitor not run on both days? |
| 16. | 5/5/2008 4:27:00 PM | I have arranged my life around the assumption that orienteering takes place on a Saturday. I will be able to do fewer events if some are on a Sunday. I suspect the vast majority of people will be in the same situation. |
| 17. | 5/6/2008 12:13:00 PM | I think both saturday and sunday should be used, but more importantly, co-ordination should be made with the southern fixture list, such that clashes should not be introduced. |
| 18. | 5/6/2008 4:22:00 PM | Eight events with at least two on Sunday and perhaps the best three scores counting should allow everyone to compete fairly. The level of participation on Saturdays vs. Sundays should be reviewed after a few years, and the balance between Saturday and Sunday ammended as appropriate. Saturday only (present arrangment) is prohibitive for some and Sunday only would exclude others. |
| 19. | 5/6/2008 5:04:00 PM | Sunday orienteering i think is a brilliant idea!
It gives people who do other sports on Saturdays a chance to do orienteering on a Sunday! Saturday is a day for shopping and many activites. But on a Sunday hardly any shops are open so people can do their shopping on a Saturday and enjoy an orienteering run on a Sunday! |
| 20. | 5/6/2008 10:39:00 PM | Many of my school friends are unwilling to take up orienteering because of the team sports on Saturday. |
| 21. | 5/8/2008 8:16:00 AM | In relation to the colour series, it may be necessary to designate some national events (eg NIOA champs) as part of the colour series in order to give people who don't wish to run on Sundays the opportunity to complete sufficient events to qualify for a final placing in the series. |
| 22. | 5/9/2008 2:24:00 PM | Sunday probably suit me best, but Saturday is ok. |
